Frequently asked questions

  • What training methods do you use?
My training methodologies are based on positive reinforcement and rewarding your dog, and avoiding punishment and aversive experiences. This is also known as +R, rewards based, or force free training. This means that I don't use any pain, fear, or intimidation in any of my training plans.
  • What breeds do you work with?
Using kind, effective training methods means that we are able to work with and train all dog breeds from chihuahuas and spaniels, to malinois and mastiffs.
  • What are your credentials?
I have a BSc (Hons) Degree in Pet Behaviour and Welfare, and an up-to-date canine first aid certificate. I am a canine training professional member with the Pet Professional Guild British Isles (PPGBI), and a provisional clinical animal behaviourist with the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors. Provisional members have demonstrated that they have the appropriate level of Knowledge and Understanding for the professional role of Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CAB). They are now gaining the practical experience necessary to be assessed as a CAB and therefore become a Full member of the APBC. The APBC supports its Provisional members undertaking behaviour consultations.
  • Are you insured?
Yes, I am fully insured with a specialist animal business insurer.
  • My dog is deaf/blind, can they be trained?
Absolutely! One of my own dogs is deaf and visually impaired, and I have extensive experience in adapting training plans to suit the needs of individual dogs.
  • Myself or a family member has a disability, can you accommodate us?
Any of our training plans or locations can be adapted to best suit your needs. Please contact us to discuss your individual requirements, and I will ensure that they are met.
  • How do I book?
Please fill out the contact form on the contact page and I will get back to you within 48 hours to arrange your first session.
  • What do I bring to training?
Please bring: poo bags; a flat collar, martingale collar, or harness; fixed length lead; your dog's favourite toy; your dog's favourite treats, and lots of them! If we are working on recall, please bring a long line of at least 5-10 metres, or a flexi lead appropriate to your dog's size. Please do not bring: electric collars, choke chains, prong collars, slip leads, unless you are bringing them to trade in for a discount on our training services. Flexi leads are only permitted for recall training sessions. Harsh handling will not be permitted.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. All 1-2-1 lessons cancelled 48 hours or more in advance will receive a full refund, or move the session to an alternate time with no additional fees. Lessons cancelled without 48 hours notice are not guaranteed a full refund.
